Her Pride is Suffering

A personal illustration exploring comic-style visual storytelling, composition, and character design.

This piece was created as an exploration of comic illustration while drawing upon my background in concept art. The aim was to build a dynamic, narrative-driven composition celebrating iconic periods from British history embedded in our mythos, uniting them within a single heroic scene.

A key focus throughout the project was maintaining clear visual hierarchy and readability despite the large number of characters. I explored silhouette, gesture, and colour to guide the viewer's eye naturally through the composition, while ensuring each character retained a distinct identity and presence within the wider narrative.

Alongside the final illustration, I've included the line art to showcase part of the creative process and demonstrate the underlying drawing, composition, and structure behind the finished piece.

This project provided an opportunity to further develop my skills in visual storytelling, large-scale composition, and character-driven illustration while continuing to explore different artistic disciplines alongside my professional concept art work.
